"Pillow Flight", Assemblage
“Pillow Flight”
Suitcase, crocheted buoy, feathers, frame, wood, shells
22” x 12” x 20” (H)
“Pillow Flight” is an assemblage built around a vintage suitcase. The suitcase's interior is lined with feathers from a 100 year-old pillow from Newfoundland. The pillow passed from generation to generation . . home to home. Crocheted fishing twine covers a buoy that cuts through the centre of the suitcase becoming visible when open and closed.
An ornate gold leaf frame also cuts through the suitcase. The opening of the frame is filled with an acrylic that allows light through but is obscures any clear sight of what is inside or outside. The links to moments of memory, of home, migrating a sense of a place carried about in a portable case.
